PMASE FAQ

What do you mean by a “Blended Format”?
The Blended Format refers to how course content is delivered to students.  All courses in the PMASE program will be a blend of face-to-face instruction time with the faculty member and distance, or online, instruction modules that are available to you before and after the face-to-face sessions.  You are able to complete most online modules at the time and place that is most convenient for you.  Click here for more details about this delivery format.

Do I need to travel for this program?
There is no need for you to travel if you live in the cohort location.  The program is offered in a blended format.  Each course consists of 2 – 3 face-to-face weekend classroom sessions and distance learning modules delivered over the internet.  Georgia Tech faculty will come to your cohort location for the face-to-face sessions.  Click here for more details about the program format.

What is a cohort?
A cohort is a group of students working towards a common degree (PMASE) and taking the same classes on the same schedule, in a lockstep manner, through the completion of the degree.  Work groups and relationships formed within the cohort will last throughout the program and beyond.

If my company sponsored a PMASE cohort, can Georgia Tech handle classified information?
Yes, we have been working with agencies and companies for over 75 years that rely on us to handle classified information at all levels of security.

Will there be a cohort starting soon at a location near me?
We will be starting cohorts in numerous locations over the next several years.  Please refer to the PMASE website for a listing of existing and upcoming cohort locations. Also submit a PMASE inquiry with your contact information to enable us to track students for potential new cohorts.

Will I need to come to Atlanta to purchase books and materials for my courses?
No.  You may order textbooks online.  Some additional reference materials will either be provided to you in an electronic format or given to you in class.

Are students of the program considered actual Georgia Tech students with the same privileges?
Once accepted for admission, you are a Georgia Tech student with the same privileges as an on-campus student and additional privileges to access the Distance Learning aspects of the program.

After completing the program will a diploma be awarded with the degree?
Once you have successfully completed the program, you will have earned a Georgia Tech degree entitled: Professional Masters in Applied Systems Engineering.

Why is a Georgia Tech PMASE degree better than a Systems Engineering degree that is offered at a local institution?
Georgia Tech is ranked #7 in US World and News Report and its ISyE program has been #1 in 19 of the last 20 years.  Click here to learn more details about the value of a Georgia Tech degree.

Is this an accredited degree?
Yes.  The Professional Masters in Applied Systems Engineering degree is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

What is the difference between a Masters of Science degree and a Professional Masters degree?
Both are accredited Georgia Tech degrees.  The Professional Masters degree is designed for those interested in pursuing graduate level studies and immediately applying the newly gained knowledge to his/her individual work environment.  It is not designed to be a stepping stone to earning a Ph.D. but does not limit you if you choose that path at a later date.

Can the Capstone Project be modeled on a realistic industry problem?
Yes, we will work with the students and their sponsors to identify a real-world challenge that utilizes the PMASE tools and languages for solving a complex problem.

Does this program take advantage of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)?
There are aspects of the PMASE program that will help with MBSE.  Georgia Tech’s PMASE program will be building limited SysML models to conduct Systems Design Analysis.
